cancer alley
Until she learned about a proposed plastics plant a few miles from her home, Sharon Lavigne was a special education teacher whose favorite pastime was singing in her church choir. Vs. Goliath: Cancer Alley follows Sharon, a grandmother of twelve, in her fight against the industries poisoning her community. Sharon lives in the region known as “Cancer Alley,” a corridor along the Mississippi River that was once the heart of plantation country, and is now petrochemical plant country, still populated largely by the descendents of the enslaved. Receiving a message from God that she must stay and fight the plants, Sharon becomes an internationally renowned activist as she mobilizes her family and wider community.

appalachia
Deep in the hollers of the Blue Ridge Mountains, construction of a monstrous fracked gas pipeline is tearing through mountaintops, forests, and streams, bearing down on rural communities. Army Veteran Russell Chisholm swore an oath to protect and serve his country, and now, as the waters, forests, and way of life he calls home come under threat, he’s been called to defend his community from the domestic threat of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. He joins with community members from West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina, including farmers, veterans and Indigenous leaders who rally together to resist.

greater chaco
The sacred Greater Chaco region of New Mexico, ancestral homeland of the Pueblo and Diné peoples, is under siege from a relentless surge of oil and gas extraction. After a life-changing call to Standing Rock, young Sandia Pueblo leader Julia Bernal returns home to confront the same forces threatening her own community. Uniting with Diné elder Daniel Tso and an intergenerational coalition, they lead a powerful fight to defend tribal sovereignty and protect Chaco for future generations.

port arthur
Port Arthur, Texas is the biggest oil and petrochemical hub you’ve probably never heard of. John Beard Jr. worked in an oil refinery there for decades, as did his father before him, in the refinery town of Port Arthur, Texas. After retiring, John watches Port Arthur get hollowed out economically, while his neighbors die from pollution-related illness, as more dirty plants appear and expand. Experiencing the climate-driven devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey, John is called to fight back. He becomes a leading opponent of fossil fuels in his community, as he takes on the latest extractive frontier threatening Port Arthur and the world: liquid natural gas export terminals.
